Safe Spaces Mapping Consultant – British Council Nigeria

Job Descriptions
The British Council invites applications from suitably qualified consultants to undertake the Safe Spaces Mapping project. Safe spaces are girl-only spaces to ensure that support networks and relationships are created to enable girls to talk about issues that are taboo or otherwise unacceptable to discuss in public, in addition to supporting them to develop empowering life skills, break out of social isolation and develop networks with other girls.
The mapping exercise will look at girls’ clubs and safe spaces, as it is recognised that to date, these types of interventions have targeted girls and there is a need to understand what existing structures girls’ access and what is available. It will also be important to identify best practices to develop a practical guideline on how to establish and run safe spaces for girls in Nigeria (this will draw from the analysis of best practices in the country).

Scope of Work
The objective of this research is to deliver a comprehensive report that will help the Safe Spaces TWG understand the existing structures for 10-19 years old girls to come together, network and learn new skills in formal and informal environments. The analysis will look at both safe spaces and clubs, including their curricula and evidence of best practice and impact on girls.

Requirements
The Evidence, Learning and Best Practice TWG sub-committee will award this contract competitively and will assess proposals against the following criteria:
Relevant PhD or Master’s qualification
Demonstrated experience in designing and conducting mapping exercises in Nigeria on social development issues.
Experience and expertise in adolescent girl-centered programing.
Excellent writing and presentation skills in English and experience in synthesising findings into clear and accessible presentations.
Good time management.
Computer literate
